When should I outline my fonts?

For projects where you want to deliver a layout file such as Adobe Illustrator or Indesign, fonts are frequently the sticking point. To open your work – we need the exact fonts you have used and there are lots of small ways it can be difficult and fussy to get this to work.

The easy solution is to “select all” and “convert to outline. This step has the advantage of “locking” down the art so you can have complete confidence that nothing will move. A standard production method would have you keep two files on your computer: label.ai and label_OUTLINE.ai. This second file would be the one you would send out to print.  Any questions? Call us!
